Meet the Officers (2017-2018)

Brent Blackwell, President
Brent Blackwell
Brent was born and raised in northern Illinois. He began his Army career immediately following high school graduation. Brent served for 7 years on active duty as a medic in the 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, deploying 5 times to Afghanistan. Following separation from active duty, he began college at U of I, where he is a pre-medical student with a major in kinesiology. Brent is in his senior year and is currently applying to and interviewing with medical schools. He is serving as the Illini Veterans President for the second consecutive year, and also serves on the College of Applied Health Sciences James Scholar Honors Program Advisory Board, works at the Center for Wounded Veterans, and assists in research in Dr. Marni Boppart's Molecular Muscle Physiology Lab.

Matt Cutright
Matthew Cutright is a Navy veteran who was born and raised in Effingham, IL. He has served on two separate deployments in the Persian Gulf during his 4 years in the Navy. One deployment on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in 2012 and again in 2015 on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. During these deployments, he served as an aircraft firefighter and aircraft salvage operations specialist. Matthew is in his junior year at the University of Illinois and is currently working towards a bachelors of science in finance degree.
