ILLINI VETERANS‎ > ‎

About Us

Overview

Illini Veterans was founded in the spring of 2009 by three student veterans at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to bring student veterans together. They were determined to create a  community and assist them in the transition to student life while preparing them for post-college, post-military careers. The organization, which is a chapter member of the Student Veterans of America, helps student veterans develop their social network, share information, and make their voices heard in the University community. We frequently interface with the University to express veterans' concerns regarding University programs and VA benefits issues.

We have served and participated in multiple philanthropic events. From hosting our own care package drives for servicemembers serving overseas to working with Habitat for Humanity, Danville VA, and Fraternities, the Illini Veterans are highly involved in the community and on campus. Likewise, we also collaborate with other veterans organizations, such as the VFW, American Legion, and Team Rubicon. Yearly, we host our Illini Veterans Memorial 5K, an event that honors those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Proceeds of this event benefit the Chez Family Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education (CWVHE). The Center empowers current and future student veterans with disabilities by providing an environment that allows them to attend a world-class educational institution and also live a maximally independent life.
